Photoessay: Showborough House Sculpture Garden (2014)

Showborough House is a jewel of a find deep in the  Gloucestershire countryside of England. Each year in May/June it opens its garden to host the Affordable Garden Art Competition and Exhibition where local and emerging sculptors display their work in the natural setting of the one and a half acre garden. The house itself has the feeling of a fading 1940’s style building waiting for the tumultuous social changes that would happen to England in the post-war years. Amazingly, everything seems to be taken on trust! You are free to walk around the garden viewing the sculptures completely unsupervised and visit the cafe where you can help yourself to the most scrumptious of  homemade cakes on the basis you will put your money in the “honesty box”. The exhibition itself is also free requiring only a donation. Most, if not all of the sculptures are also for sale.
