Make no mistake my recently acquired Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a truly wonderful camera and an absolute technological marvel however the supplied camera strap is, well to say the least, extremely average. I never did like straps that have the manufacturers logo and camera type emblazoned on it in big letters, preferring instead something more subdued and discreet. The E-M5 seemed to adopt this approach but not so its big brother. I believe a cameras brand should speak through the images it enables the photographer to create rather than having its name plastered garishly over it. The other, and more important, aspect of a camera strap should of course be that it is comfortable. Having spent the day with the E-M1 around my neck on an unseasonably warm November day (21C for goodness sake) in London I have to say the one supplied with the camera is not all that comfortable and made me head to Mr Google to look for an alternative.
Happily I quickly discovered Rigu Colourful Camera Accessories and this strap made by Cam-in. The strap is made of smooth, soft leather, is stitched together really well and comes with the usual loop fixing mechanism as well as a metal keyring type fastening and leather pad to protect the camera from being scratched. It also looks great! Here’s a picture of the strap on my E-M5 taken with the E-M1 and 45mm f/1.8 lens.
I should also add that the service provided by Andy at Rigu is second to none. The strap arrived in one working day as stated and Andy sends you a personal email letting you know its progress. He even packs a MAOAM bar to chew on whilst you attach your strap – how’s that for service!
