This year Birmingham is to host a celebration of photography over the weekend of 19th and 20th March to coincide with the Photography Show running at the National Exhibition Centre. Called Capture Birmingham the aim of the weekend is to have a series of exhibitions and other photography related events which aim to “showcase the city’s place in the photographic world”.
I’m really excited to be working with Chris Wright from Helter Skelter Media to organise our own exhibition as part of Capture Birmingham. Called Smarter Lives the exhibition takes the concept of Smarter Cities and places it in the context of real people living their lives in Birmingham. The exhibition will showcase the work of Birmingham based artists and will represent a view of Birmingham from the inside.
For my own part I am creating a series of portraits of young entrepreneurs who have made Birmingham and the wider West Midlands home to their business. My idea is to create a portrait of them and get them to write a brief bio to display alongside their picture at the exhibition. I am looking for people to photograph for this so anyone interested should contact me on here, via my website or directly to petercripps@icloud.com.
Here is an image of one of my first young entrepreneurs, Jodie Cook, Founder and Managing Director of JC Social Media based in Birmingham city centre.
