Todays Friday Foto is a homage to the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who died 28 years ago this month.
Mapplethorpe’s work covered an array of photographic genres, including portraits, male and female nudes, self-portraits and still-life’s of flowers. He also made images of the underground BDSM scene of New York City causing a good deal of controversy as well as a national debate over the public funding of controversial artwork.
Mapplethorpe’s life is also documented in the fantastic book Just Kids by his long term partner, the musician Patti Smith.
The above image is a new rendition of a very old image. So old it was taken in my pre-micro four-thirds days when I had a Canon 40D!
