If, like me, you are not overly keen on the straps that are provided by camera manufacturers (especially those emblazoned with names and logos) you are probably always on the lookout for a good alternative.

I first came across Hyperion Camera Straps in the online Fujilove Magazine in this review by its founder, Tomasz Trzebiatowski. I now have two of their straps. A Black Acrylic Wrist Strap as well as a 90cm Black-Olive Acrylic Strap. I love the look and feel of these straps and think they go really well with the Fujifilm X-Series range of cameras, complementing the retro feel that these cameras have.

To my mind a cameras strap has to do three things:

1. It has to be strong and secure. A cheap camera strap can result in a very expensive accident if it breaks or fails in some way!
2. It has to be reasonably priced. Clearly not to be so cheap it is poor quality and therefore not meeting criteria 1) but not overpriced for the sake of it.
3. It has to look good whilst at the same time not being too flamboyant or noticeable. I prefer black cameras for my street photography work because I believe they are less noticeable so there is no point having a strap that can be seen from a few hundred metres away.

All of these criteria are more than adequately met by the two straps I have purchased from Hyperion (and you can have a bright orange one if that’s what appeals to you).

When choosing your strap on the Hyperion website you can customise its colour, the binding colour as well as the length so you can basically create your own personalised strap. They also offer round or flat acrylic or leather straps.

The straps attach to your camera via a ring or dog leash type mechanism which could scratch the paint off your camera so I recommend you also buy the leather protector tags.
